Harvey Cane & Hugo Slave

Release Date: 26 June, 2015

Harvey Cane & Hugo Slave is moniker for one of the voices in my head that screams out for me to satisfy them by creating a genre of music that is a mixture of electronic music, hip-hop and displaced beats; ‘Slip Hop’. Working with some amazing vocalists and other hip-hop enthusiasts, Harvey Cane & Hugo Slave leaves your hand tapping one beat, your foot kicking on another, and your head bopping to something you can only feel.

Surd

Release Date: 23 June, 2012

This EP was an experiment in syncopation, production techniques, positivity and tricking one’s amygdala. I only composed, edited and produced the works when my mindframe was in a particular state: positive. I found that throughout the creative process, I was convinced that my state was positive, thus wanting me to create music.

Role: Composer, Recording Engineer, and Producer.

Amygdala

Active: 2009 – present

Amygdala are a core two-piece drone, live improved group, consisting of James Miller and Allan Bremner. Over time, numerous branches have been created, utilising many different collaborations, including Cameron Kennedy (multi-instrumentalist/percussionist) and Aaron Carter (visual creation/projectionist). James and Allan perform with acoustic instruments and transform them in unqiue ways, right in front of the audience, to transform the world around them.

Amygdala

Role: Composer, instrumentalist, processor, and producer.

James Miller

Release date: 2009 – 2012

These samples are a mixture of my first EP (2010), subsequent singles and collaborative projects. They range from my contributing as the single composer/orchestrator to producing the fantastic artists I had the privilege of working with.

Role: Composer, Arranger, Recording Engineer, and Producer.

Future

Drum n Bass/Jungle Project

Placing an attention to old-school ’90s UK Drum n Bass and Jungle production with an angle of new dup-step, grime and trip-hop sound, this is the project that James uses to release some steam. The songs are all composed with a limited timeframe and are compiled through, a majority, of samples and some original synth lines.

Role: Composer, Recording Engineer, and Producer.

Mammatus

As an experimental and creative expression, the sounds behind Mammatus are based on an the aural and abstracted representations behind cloud formation. Just like a cloudy, stormy day, the soundscapes provide a comforting yet exposed feeling whilst traveling through the dense aural tunnel.

Mammatus edited

Role: Composer, Producer, Recording and Mastering Engineer.

Project Co-Director and Producer: Mike Willmett

Mike Willmett (Meeksounds) approached me with an idea to present an installation. We met together very few times but were able to trek over great distances in those few meetings. The installation based around a space where a person could create and manipulate sound within the environment. As the video shows, it opens the door to great possibilities for a broad range of audiences.

Role: Co-programmer and co-music arranger.

Wire Map

A wire map was created by James Miller and Andrew Galloway using styrofoam, fishing line, beads, wooden supports, and a projector. This holographic video projects a ball into the wires, allowing the user to manipulate this object around the vector matrix.

Role: Co-programmer and co-producer.

Gunner Runner (2012)

Role: Collaborator on soundtrack with Ben Miles.
